Scranton Alumni Plan Day of Service Projects at Sites Across Country

            Alumni from The University of Scranton will give back to their local communities by volunteering at service projects from Scranton to Arlington, Texas, in April.

            Scranton alumni, family and friends will clean trails and neighborhoods, paint and spruce up facilities, and prepare meals at 14 volunteer service projects in 12 cities, which include Scranton; Wilkes-Barre; Bethlehem; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Arlington, Texas; Baltimore, Md.; Boston, Mass.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; Fairfield, Iowa; Maplewood, N.J.; and  Marietta, Ga.

            Most events are scheduled for Saturday, April 13, except for a project in Baltimore, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, one of Scranton’s projects slated for Sunday, April 14, and a project in Lehigh Valley on Saturday, April 20.

            Scranton area alumni can volunteer for a clean-up of the Lackawanna Heritage Trail on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also on April 13, alumni can assist with food preparation or help with a spring clean-up at the St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Alumni can also join students volunteering with the University’s annual Street Sweep of the area near campus and downtown beautification project, which begins at 1 p.m. on April 14. Alumni of other Jesuit colleges and universities can also volunteer.

This is the fourth year Scranton alumni have organized and participated in a Day of Service.
